Government to fund 10 new Construction Colleges with the view to upskill 40,000 construction workers by 2029. I’ve been recruiting within the industry for over 25 years now and there has never been a time when there has been such a dearth in skilled trades. To plug this gap we have relied on outsourced labour that has led to an even greater shift in the uptake of young trades entering the market whilst other career paths have been pushed.
This is just the beginning, to bring people back into construction sector as a vocation and a career for life, the industry needs to not only train from the ground up, but also bring back the ‘time served route’ into management. Giving tradesmen and women the opportunity to climb the management ladder, from chippy to foreman, site manager to project manager and construction director to MD….
The industry was founded by men who embarked in the trades, lets see it go back to a time where people gained their stripes from learning from mentors and were promoted from within. See article:- Government to build 10 new colleges
