How to find a job in the Construction Industry in 2026

Typing “ Jobs in Construction or Construction Industry jobs” into Google is usually a sign of two things:

  1. You’re ready for a career change
  2. You want a role that fits your skill set and not a generic / random vacancy from another industry

Construction is one of the best industries in the UK (and internationally) for real career progression, strong salaries and variety. But it’s also a market where the right job doesn’t always go to the person with the best CV — it goes to the person who knows how to position themselves and access the right opportunities.

This guide is designed to help you do exactly that.

  1. Be Clear on What “Construction Job” You’re looking for…

The Construction sector is vast and certain job titles can mean different things to different companies.  If you’re not specific, you’ll get lost in the ether.

Ask yourself:

  • Which sector? Commercial, residential, retail fit-out, hospitality/hotels, civils
  • Which side? Contractor, specialist subcontractor, developer/client-side, consultancy, family office/estate.
  • Which Role / family?
    • Site/Delivery: Site Manager, Construction Manager, Project Manager, Package Manager
    • Commercial: Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, Estimator
    • Technical/Design: Design Manager, BIM Manager, MEP Coordinator, Planner
    • Operations: Supervisors, Package Managers, finishings

The clearer you are, the faster the right people can find you or place you.

  1. Write a CV that Construction Hiring Managers feel compelled to read

Construction CVs need to be practical and project-led. Keep it concise and relevant, not emoticons or skill charts (rating yourself out of 10!)

Top tips for writing a Construction CV, see our guide:- How to write a CV for the Construction Industry

  • Lead with a quick overview of you / Personal Profile.
  • Followed by academic/further education qualifications
  • Work Experience – In chronological order, most recent first
  • List projects like a mini portfolio
Include value, location, scope and your responsibilities.
  • Finish with Certificates & Hobbies/Interests
    SMSTS/SSSTS, CSCS/ECS/JIB, First Aid, IOSH/NEBOSH, etc.

If your CV reads like a generic job description and you load it with basic duties, or use a page to describe a short assignment, you’ll soon blend into the pile.

  1. Use Keywords That Match Real Construction Vacancies

A lot of Hiring teams, whether that’s inhouse or recruiters search by keywords. If they’re not in your CV or LinkedIn, you may never show up. Equally if you are dealing with a junior consultant or a recruiter that doesn’t fully understand your industry, they will not be able decipher a good CV from a bad CV. So if you haven’t worked for a household name, give a brief description of the business, its operations and turnover if available.

Examples to include where relevant:

  • Fit-Out / Interiors / Retail / Hospitality
  • MEP / Building Services / Commissioning
  • Façade / Envelope / Structures
  • JCT / NEC / Design & Build
  • Package Management / Change Control / Variations
  • CAT A / CAT B / Shell & Core
  • Super Prime / Luxury Residential
  • Hotel Refurbishment / New Build Hospitality
  • London / UK / International Projects

These terms help you get found but please make sure they are relevant to your experience, don’t just ‘keyword stuff’…

4. Speak to a Specialist Construction Recruiter (Not a Generalist)

The best construction jobs rarely sit on job boards for long, if at all.
They’re filled through networks.

A specialist recruiter will:

  • Know which projects are starting before they go public
  • Understand your role/discipline
  • Pitch you properly to the right hiring manager
  • Advise on packages and career moves honestly

If you want someone to actually find you a job in construction, who is incentivised to do so, go to a specialist, but research them too, what is their expertise, niche, credentials, standing in the industry?

Here at Construction Recruitment, we have over 25 years plus individually, not combined, not in other industries, we are Construction Specialists and experts in our field.
